Order and payment problems

Refund denied or stalled

You were promised a refund and it hasn't come, or you were told no for a reason that doesn't hold up. Reports here are usually about a company or platform rather than a person, and often follow a non-delivery or an unauthorized charge.

What it looks like

  • 'It's been processed, allow 7 to 10 business days,' several times.
  • A refund offered only as store credit or a coupon.
  • A denial citing a policy you were never shown.
  • Being passed between the seller, the platform, and the payment app.

What are your options when a refund stalls?

Delay is cheap for a business and expensive for you. Many people give up after the second follow-up, and a policy that's hard to find is hard to argue with. Platforms and payment apps have real dispute processes, but they have deadlines, and stalling can run out the clock.

What to do

  • Put it in writing with dates and order numbers, and ask for a specific date.
  • Open a dispute with the platform or your card issuer before their deadline (often 60 to 120 days), whether or not the seller has replied.
  • For payment apps, use the in-app dispute flow, and contact the linked bank or card as well.
  • If it looks like the seller never intended to refund, report it.
