Identity and verification

Several accounts, same script

You block one profile and a new one appears with a different name and the same opening lines. Or friends compare notes and find they were sent the exact same messages. Same photos, same story, different number.

What it looks like

  • A new match whose first three messages you've read before.
  • Different profiles sharing photos, phrasing, or the same unusual spelling mistakes.
  • The number changes, the WhatsApp display picture doesn't.
  • A profile that reappears within hours of being reported.

Why does the same person show up under different names?

Accounts and phone numbers are cheap and disposable. Whoever runs the script measures success in volume, so the same message goes out to hundreds of people, and getting blocked is a cost of doing business. Consistency is a feature for them: a script that works gets reused until it stops working.

What to do

  • Search a distinctive phrase from their message in quotes. Scripts leak online.
  • Report every account, not just the first one. Platforms link them faster with more reports.
  • Look up each new number here. Repeated numbers with the same story build a useful record.
  • Warn the friend group. These scripts often hit people who know each other.
